THE SCIENCE OF STRONGER HAIR
Hair bonds are the internal connections that hold each strand together — hydrogen, ionic and disulfide. Think of them as scaffolding. When they're intact, hair holds its shape and stands up to a normal day. Colour, heat, sun, time — all wear that scaffolding down over time. When hair is healthy, everything becomes easier. It's quicker to style, more manageable, holds its shape, colour stays fresher for longer, and hair can grow longer because it's not constantly snapping or breaking. The benefits really do go on and on.
THE THREE TYPES OF HAIR BONDS
Disulfide
Gives hair its shape and strength. Influences hair type — curly or straight. Hard to break, and provides long-lasting structural integrity. Broken down by chemical treatments and excessive heat.
Hydrogen
Formed between water molecules and the hair structure. Temporary — breaks and reforms easily. Allows hair to change shape when wet or after heat-styling. Disrupted by water, heat or environment.
Ionic
Formed between charged areas in the keratin structure. Helps stabilise the hair's shape. Disrupted by changes in pH, moisture or chemical treatments.
Together, these bonds act as structural glue - for strength, elasticity and shape. When they're broken down, your hair's internal structure is compromised, leaving strands weak, overly elastic, and lacking resilience and manageability.
WHY THEY BREAK DOWN
There are many factors that disrupt hair bonds over time and lead to visibly damaged hair — chemical treatments, heat styling, environmental stressors like humidity and pollution, and simply the general business of daily life. It isn't a single event. It's cumulative, the same as anything else that gets used every day.
THE THING PEOPLE GET WRONG
They assume this is only a bleach-and-blonde problem. It isn't. I've seen virgin hair — never coloured, never lightened — that's still compromised, because heat and sun and daily stress don't check whether you've been near some bleach before they do their damage.
Of course, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is healthy hair. Repair takes time, but protection can start instantly.

Treat every strand - coloured or not - as if it's carrying some wear, because it almost certainly is.
QUESTIONS I GET ASKED
Do I need bond repair if I've never coloured my hair?
Yes. Heat styling, pollution, sun and daily wear break bonds down over time — colour isn't the only cause.
How long does it take to repair hair bonds?
Protection starts from the first use. Building real strength takes consistency, not a single application. Some bonds — hydrogen and ionic — reform quickly and easily on their own. Disulfide bonds are more stubborn and need targeted technology to help repair them properly.
What's the difference between hydrogen, ionic and disulfide bonds?
Disulfide is the strongest, hardest to break — usually only chemical treatments or serious heat get to it. Hydrogen and ionic are more easily disturbed day to day, by water, heat, even the weather.
Can hair bonds repair themselves naturally?
Some can, temporarily — it's why wet hair can change shape, then return to its natural texture once it dries. Disulfide bonds are different — they need targeted technology to help repair them properly.
